We are so excited for a new summer at the Academy.  We have a lot of exciting activities and field trips to attend. 

This year, we studying the history of Birmingham and Alabama.  We are reading two books – The Well and the Mine by Gin Phillips and Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis.  Many of you may have been able to meet Mr. Curtis this past school year when he came to Birmingham.  We are in the process of scheduling Ms. Phillips to come and speak to our group about her book and writing.

As part of the study of The Well and the Mine we are going to learn about how people of Alabama lived, in particular the Depression Era, industries of Alabama that shaped our city of Birmingham, and historial landmarks of our city.

Check out the calendar page to the right.  The dates are tentative and more activites will be added.  We will send out field trip permission forms for those trips leaving Phillips.  We also have a few guest speakers who will come to share with us.
